Isa tripod with a maximum height of 150cm very useful? Or is it too short to take photos of groups etc?

I would recommend you going to the place where you will be taking the pictures and seeing if it is to short by testing it. In most cases, the distance at which you place the tripod will affect the general 'crop' of the photo.
