Could I be divorced and not know it?

In 2006 I got married in Reno, Nevada to somebody living in California, but I live in Missouri. I knew her in person a long time before she moved to cali, but anyways, I haven't seen her since the day after we got married cuz she went back to california and I came back to Missouri, I called the courthouse in reno or whatever it was I needed to and they have no record of a divorce. Is it possibe she got a divorce or annulment from me and I just don't know it? How else would I find out for sure without hiring an expensive lawyer?
